ABOUT DR. LINDA NELSON

Dr. Nelson's clinical work is primarily devoted to comprehensive neuropsychological assessments and treatment with adults. Clinical practice locations are Santa Monica and Anaheim, CA. Dr. Nelson is QME-certified to practice as a Clinical Psychologist in: Anaheim, Bakersfield, Corona, Fontana, Inglewood, Moreno Valley, Palmdale, San Mateo, Stockton, and West Covina, CA. Dr. Nelson is associated with (ExamWorks) with whom she performs Panel Qualified Medical Evaluations for the State of California, Department of Workers' Compensation. She is on the medical staffs of UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital and Providence St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica, CA. Dr. Nelson has over 25 years of experience working with families and patients in the field of clinical psychology and neuropsychology. Her psychotherapy practice focuses on relational issues in individuals. She is experienced in conducting Forensic Independent Medical Examinations in clinical psychology and clinical neuropsychology.

Dr. Nelson has just published a new book entitled Using the MMPI-2 in Forensic Assessment, Butcher, J., Hass, G., Greene, R., Nelson, L., American Psychological Association, Wash DC, 2015. She is Principal Investigator and has published extensively in the areas of Down syndrome, Aging, and Alzheimer's disease. Her education includes a doctorate in Clinical Psychology (from the Ohio State University) and fellowship in Neuropsychology from UCLA. She is board-certified in Clinical Neuropsychology.

Dr. Linda Nelson is Professor, Emerita, in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences, UCLA, and the Department of Neurology, UCI. Her research blends neuropsychology and brain imaging to achieve more reliable diagnoses of dementia and Alzheimer's disease. She has developed tests to measure symptoms of dementia.

Prior to joining the faculty at UCLA, Dr. Nelson was on faculty in the Neurology department at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) for 16 years. At UCI, Dr. Nelson served as Vice Chair, Neurology department, research scientist, and was active in clinical duties at the UCI Medical Center.

The aim of her research is to help identify the disease early and intervene to help slow its progression. Her current work focuses on Alzheimer's disease effects on aging adults with Down syndrome and intellectual disabilities.
